I can see you

I can see you naked in the morning,
opening the windows,
letting out the night.
I can taste the smell
of morning on your breath.
Early sun-beams stroke your body,
coat your hair with baby light.

Your eyes still moist with dream,
your lips half-parted;
breath
as sweet and warm
as sheets,
now left abandoned
on your bed.

I can see you now:
naked,
looking at the sky -
your back to the bed,
that I share with you
in dreams
and lonely fantasy.

Come back, my love
and let’s lie down again
amidst our dreams.
Let me know you,
touch you
like a lover.
Let me pray to you.

I stand here,
lost and naked -
take me in and
take me with you;
make me whole.
I need your body
next to mine.

I need to be with you,
invite the sun to shine upon those sheets,
still wet with sweat and lust,
rumpled like a lover’s note,
carried in your pocket,
taken out and read
when you’re back home again.
